Samuel Bellamy was nicknamed Black Bellamy, and came to be a thing of legend.
British born, he traveled to the American colonies looking for fortune. He
didn’t find his sought after sunken treasure and returned to Britain to be
married. It wasn’t long, however, before he took again to the seas and soon
became captain of his own ship. He pirated in the West Indies. Pirate or not, he
was said to be gentle and kind with his prisoners. Pirate costumes of Samuel
Bellamy would display a handsome and well dressed man.
Costumes of pirate Anne Bonny will display a woman of wealth and good upbringing
who jumped headfirst into wild and wanton ways. Born in County Cork Ireland
about the end of the 17th century, Anne was brought by ship to America by her
lawyer father and her mother, his maid. She grew up in Charleston South
Carolina, and exhibited a fierce temper and fiery countenance early on. When she
fell in love with a sea captain at age sixteen her pirate years began to take
shape. Disowned by her father, she married the captain and they left Charleston,
and land.
After the marriage failed to make her happy and pirating beside her husband
became a bore, Anne changed sides and started spying on the pirates for then
Governor Rogers. No one knows what finally happened to her.
Clearly, donning pirate costumes will put you, if only for one day, in the
company of some wild warriors.
